Rough diamonds form between 150 and 200 kilometres beneath the earth's surface, under pressures so extreme that carbon atoms have no choice but to lock into the hardest structure in nature. They travel to the surface carried by volcanic eruptions (kimberlite pipes) events so rare they happen once every few million years. What arrives is not polished. It is not pretty in the conventional sense. It is raw evidence of the planet doing something extraordinary.
